Sarpo Mira came out of the Hungarian breeding programme of the Sárvári family, developed under a collective farm system that needed a potato yielding heavily with little or no spraying and storing through winter without refrigeration. The result is the most blight-resistant variety in general cultivation — many growers rate it the most resistant of all. It lifts large, oval, pink-skinned tubers with yellow, floury flesh, crops very heavily, shrugs off drought better than anything else in the range, and keeps for months.

Planting and Growing:
- Planting Time: Plant between April and May when the soil temperature reaches 8°C.
- Sowing Depth: Plant 15cm deep, with 40cm between tubers and 75cm between rows.
- Growing Tips: Vigorous and spreading — give it more room than other maincrops. It will keep growing long after other varieties have gone down to blight, so be prepared to cut the haulm to stop the tubers getting too large.
Harvesting:
- Harvest Time: Lift from September through October, around 20-22 weeks after planting. Stores exceptionally well in a cool, dark place.
