£1.49

Petunia F1 Shake Cherryberry (Petunia x hybrida) is a breakthrough in bicolour breeding, offering a “milkshake swirl” of cherry-red, rose, and creamy-lemon tones. This multiflora variety is genetically compact, reaching just 20cm in height, making it an excellent choice for high-density planting in window boxes, hanging baskets, and patio pots. Bred for a tidy, mounded habit, it stays covered in 5cm blooms throughout the summer without becoming leggy.

  • Vibrant, irregular “cherry-berry” swirls on every bloom.
  • Naturally mounded growth that stays tidy without the need for pinching.
  • Multiflora type that recovers much faster from rain than large-flowered varieties.
  • F1 hybrid vigour for superior uniformity and flowering speed.

How to Grow Petunia F1 Shake Cherryberry

Petunia F1 Shake Cherryberry is a compact, multiflora variety of petunia that stands out with its vibrant cherry and cream blossoms. Perfect for UK gardeners, this half-hardy annual thrives in containers, garden beds, and hanging baskets, providing reliable colour throughout the growing season with minimal maintenance.

Growing Instructions

Sowing Petunia F1 Shake Cherryberry Seeds:

  • When to Sow: Start seeds indoors from February to late April.
  • How to Sow: These seeds are supplied as professional pellets (coated in inert clay) to make them easier to handle. Place the pellets on the surface of moist, well-drained seed compost. Do not cover them, as Petunia F1 Shake Cherryberry seeds need light for successful germination.
  • The Dissolve Step: Mist the pellets thoroughly with a spray bottle until the clay coating begins to break down. If the pellet remains intact, the seed cannot access the moisture required to grow.
  • Germination Conditions: Maintain a temperature between 20-27°C; seeds should germinate within 10–21 days.

Transplanting and Growing:

  • After Germination: Once large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 3-inch pots, placing them in a frost-free, well-lit location.
  • Final Planting: Once the risk of frost has passed in late May, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions for a week before planting in containers, beds, or hanging baskets.

Care and Maintenance

  • Watering: Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. While this variety can tolerate brief dry periods, consistent moisture ensures the most prolific flowering.
  • Fertilising: Use a balanced liquid fertiliser every two weeks once the first buds appear to maintain the heavy bloom production.
  • Deadheading: Regularly remove spent blooms to encourage the plant to produce fresh flowers. Petunia F1 Shake Cherryberry is genetically compact and doesn’t require “pinching” to stay bushy.

Common Pests and Diseases

  • Pests: Be mindful of aphids and slugs, especially when the plants are young.
  • Diseases: Prevent powdery mildew and root rot by ensuring good air circulation and avoiding overly wet conditions.
