Picasso Seed Potatoes – A Heavy Cropper That Keeps Until Spring

Picasso is bred from Cara and shares its habit of producing an enormous crop of uniform, round to oval tubers. It is the best-looking potato in the range — smooth cream skin marked with distinct pink eyes — and the white flesh is waxy rather than floury, holding together when boiled and mashing to a firm, dense texture. It resists common scab well, which keeps the skins clean on lighter soils, and it stores as long as anything we sell.

Key Features:

  • Very Heavy Yield: Bred from Cara and crops accordingly.
  • Distinctive Appearance: Smooth cream skin with prominent pink eyes.
  • Scab Resistant: Good resistance to common scab, so the skins stay clean.
  • Excellent Keeper: Stores through the winter and into spring.

Planting and Growing:

  • Planting Time: Plant between April and May when the soil temperature reaches 8°C.
  • Sowing Depth: Plant 15cm deep, with 40cm between tubers and 75cm between rows.
  • Growing Tips: Give it space; the crop is large. Earth up thoroughly to keep the tubers from greening.

Harvesting:

  • Harvest Time: Lift from September through October, around 18-20 weeks after planting. Leave the tubers two weeks after the haulm dies back before lifting for store.

Culinary Uses:

  • Boiling: Waxy flesh that holds its shape.
  • Mash: Mashes to a firm, dense texture.
  • Baking: One of the better waxy varieties for baking.

Why Choose Picasso Seed Potatoes?
