Mixed Garlic Cloves (Hardneck) – Ideal for Beginner Garlic Growers
Curious about growing your own garlic? Our Mixed Garlic Cloves (Hardneck) offer an easy, affordable way to get started. Made up of loose cloves from top varieties like Carcassonne, Caulk Wight, and Kingsland Wight, this pack is perfect for trying garlic growing without committing to a full bulb.
What’s in the Pack
- High-Quality, Hand-Checked Cloves: Every clove is sorted by hand for size and quality, so you’re set up for a successful grow.
- Bonus Garlic Scapes: Hardneck garlic produces scapes—those curly shoots that add a mild garlic flavor to dishes, from stir-fries to salads.
- Mixed Varieties: Think of it as a ‘lucky dip’! You’ll get a mix of garlic types, mostly hardneck, with just a small chance of a softneck sneaking in.
Planting Tips
Garlic is best planted in autumn, letting it settle over winter for bigger, more flavorful bulbs. If you’re planting in early spring, you’ll still get great results, but bulbs might be a bit smaller.
- Soil Prep: Garlic loves loose, well-draining soil. Add compost or aged manure for a nutrient boost.
- Planting: Pop each clove 5 cm deep, pointed end up, and give each about 10-15 cm of space.
- Watering & Care: Keep the soil lightly moist—mulching can help keep weeds down and soil healthy.
Harvesting Garlic & Scapes
- Scapes: These pop up in late spring. Snip them off to encourage larger bulbs and enjoy their mild garlic taste in your cooking.
- Bulbs: When the leaves turn yellow, it’s harvest time! Let bulbs cure in a dry, airy spot, and they’ll be ready to store or use.
