Terms and conditions

These terms apply when you buy from grownlocal.co.uk. Please read them with our delivery prices, returns policy, privacy policy and reviews policy. Nothing in them takes away your legal rights as a consumer.

Who we are

Grown Local is run by Grown Local Scotland Ltd, a company registered in Scotland (company number SC646441), at 5 Chisholm Terrace, Penicuik, EH26 0HF. We’re licensed by the Scottish Government (SASA) to sell seeds and issue plant passports (licence S 03653, packer reference 4245).

You can reach us by email at orders@grownlocal.co.uk or through the live chat on our contact page.

Your order

When you place an order, we email to confirm we’ve received it. The contract between us starts when we confirm your order. If we then find we can’t supply something, we’ll tell you and refund you in full for it.

Prices and paying

Prices are in pounds sterling. Delivery is shown at checkout before you pay. If a price on the site is clearly wrong, we’ll contact you before sending anything, and you can choose whether to go ahead.

You pay when you order, pre-orders included. You can pay by debit or credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, Klarna (on Klarna’s own terms; not for pre-orders) or bank transfer. If you pay by bank transfer, we hold your order until the money reaches us, then send it.

Pre-orders

Some things, like seed potatoes, garlic and onion sets, are sold before they’re in stock. The product page shows the date we’ll start sending them, and we send pre-orders in batches from then. If a harvest or the weather holds them up, we’ll email you, and you can cancel for a full refund.

You can cancel a pre-order at any time before we send it, for a full refund. If your basket mixes items in stock with pre-orders, or pre-orders for different dates, we may send it as separate deliveries, each with its own postage, shown at checkout before you pay.

Delivery

We deliver to the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Prices and areas are on our delivery page. For Ireland and further afield, please use our bulk and international order form. Your order is yours, and our responsibility for it ends, once it’s delivered. If a parcel doesn’t arrive, tell us and we’ll sort it out with the carrier.

Changing your mind

You can cancel your order within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason. If your order is sent as separate deliveries, each delivery becomes its own order, with its own order number, and you can cancel each one within 14 days of it arriving. Tell us by email or chat, then send the items back within 14 days of telling us. Unless the items are faulty or wrong, you pay the return postage. Please send seed packets back unopened: if anything has been used, or handled more than needed to look at it, we may take that off the refund.

We refund you within 14 days of getting the items back (or proof you’ve sent them), including the standard delivery you paid if you return the whole order, using the way you paid.

Seed potatoes, garlic, onion sets and other living plant material can spoil quickly once they leave us, so once they’ve been delivered you can’t return them because you’ve changed your mind. You can still cancel before we send them, and this doesn’t affect your rights if they arrive faulty.

Faulty, damaged or wrong items

If something arrives damaged, faulty or isn’t what you ordered, please tell us as soon as you can, with your order number and a photo. We’ll replace it or refund you, and we pay any postage. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply, including a full refund for faulty goods within 30 days.

Growing from our seeds

Growing depends on things we can’t control, like the weather, soil and how seeds are sown, so we can’t promise a crop. If seeds don’t come up when sown as the packet says, tell us and we’ll help put it right.

Group orders

For a group order, the organiser checks out and pays for everyone’s items, which arrive as one parcel. The organiser is our customer for that order: cancellations and refunds go to them.

Emails from us

We email you about your order. We may also send sowing reminders for seeds you’ve bought, back-in-stock alerts you’ve asked for, growing surveys, a request to review what you bought, and our newsletter if you’ve signed up or left the newsletter box ticked at checkout. You can stop any of these with the link in the email. Our privacy policy explains more.

Reviews

Reviews on our product pages are from customers, shown with their first name. We don’t pay for reviews or reward them. Our reviews policy explains how we collect and check them.

Our responsibility to you

If we break these terms, we’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that was a foreseeable result. We sell to people for their own use, so we’re not responsible for business losses. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit.

Things outside our control

If something outside our control, like a poor harvest, severe weather or a problem with the carriers, delays your order, we’ll tell you as soon as we can. If the delay is long, you can cancel for a full refund.

If something goes wrong

Please tell us by email at orders@grownlocal.co.uk or by chat, with your order number, and we’ll do our best to put it right quickly.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by Scots law, and the Scottish courts can deal with any dispute. If you live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, you can also go to your local courts, and you keep the consumer protections of where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version on this page when you place your order is the one that applies to it.
