Growing Instructions for Ambrosia Sweetcorn Seeds

Unlock the sweetest summer corn with these simple steps:

Sowing

• Start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, or direct sow outdoors when soil reaches 12°C (54°F).
• For indoor sowing: Use individual 3″ pots, sow one seed per pot at 1/2″ depth. Maintain soil temperature around 18°C (65°F).
• For direct sowing: Sow seeds 2cm deep in blocks of 3-4, spaced 40cm apart. Thin to the strongest seedling per block.

Planting Out

• Harden off seedlings gradually before transplanting outdoors after the last frost.
• Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Amend with compost if needed.

Care

• Water regularly, especially during dry spells, keeping soil moist but not soggy.
• Provide support for tall stalks with bamboo canes or netting.
• Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
• Fertilize with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks.

Harvesting

• Harvest cobs when kernels are plump and bright yellow, and silks have turned brown and dry.
• Test for sweetness by pinching back a kernel – milky juice indicates perfection!
