Every review on our site is from a customer who bought the product they’re reviewing. This page explains how we collect reviews, what we publish and how we work out the score on our homepage.
How we collect reviews
After an order arrives, we ask the customer to review what they bought. Everyone gets the same invitation, whatever their experience of us. We never offer a discount, a gift or anything else for a review, and we never ask for only good ones.
From 2021 until September 2026 we collected product reviews through Trustpilot. We’ve brought them onto our product pages as they were written: the reviewer’s name, their words, their stars and the date they wrote it.
Only customers who’ve bought from us can review a product. “Verified buyer” means we’ve matched the review to the order it came from. Nobody who works for Grown Local, or their family, reviews our products.
What we publish
We publish every genuine review, good or bad, and we don’t change what customers write.
We only take a review down if it’s spam, abusive, shares someone’s personal details, or isn’t about the product (a problem with an order, for example, which we’d rather sort out with you directly). The same rules apply whatever the stars.
How we work out our score
- Our score is the average of the stars in every published review of the products we sell today.
- Each review counts once. There’s no weighting, and no review is left out for being low.
- We show it to one decimal place and never round up: an average of 4.96 shows as 4.9.
- Reviews of products we no longer sell aren’t counted, because you can’t read them on the site.
- It updates by itself at least twice a day, and as soon as a new review is published.
Reviews of seasonal stock
Seed potatoes, garlic and onion sets change from one season to the next, so each of their reviews shows the season it was for. Our seasons run from July to June and take the name of the year they end in: garlic ordered in October 2024 and seed potatoes ordered in February 2025 are both “Season 2025”.
